Raye Just Turned Her Own Song Into Brighton Pride's Biggest Meme

Raye closed out her Brighton Pride headline set the only way that made sense: by handing the mic to Wendy Williams.
Well, sort of. During the final stretch of her Preston Park set on 1 August, Raye brought out "Where Is My Husband!", the song that gave her a second UK number one and cracked the US Top 10. On the record, the outro features her own grandmother's voice declaring "Your husband is coming." For Brighton, that line got a very online glow-up: a specially re-recorded soundbite where the voice instead delivers the now-iconic "Your husband is gay", the exact audio TikTok has been running into the ground for years, sourced from a 2006 clip of Wendy on her old VH1 radio-era show.

It's a needle-drop that only works because everyone in that crowd already knew the sound before Raye played it. The meme has bounced around TikTok in every remix imaginable, reaction videos, couple pranks, Pride edits, and Raye folding it directly into her own song's DNA, live, on a Pride mainstage, is the kind of full-circle internet-to-IRL moment that doesn't happen by accident.
It capped a set that leaned hard into her history with the festival; she first played Brighton Pride back in 2018, long before the Grammy nods and the six BRITs, and returned in 2022 opening for Christina Aguilera. Saturday was her first time headlining it. Between "Purple Rain," "Prada," and "Escapism," the show doubled as a merch drop too; T-shirts printed with the line and an image of Raye in the red dress she performed in were on sale on-site.
