Nearly four decades after it was filmed, a long-lost concert movie capturing George Michael at the height of his fame is finally being released.

The newly restored film, “George Michael: The Faith Tour,” will arrive in cinemas worldwide later this year, bringing fans back to one of the most defining moments of the singer’s career. The footage was originally captured during Michael’s first solo world tour in 1988, shortly after the release of his landmark album Faith.

Shot across two nights at Paris’ Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy, the concert was filmed with 14 cameras on 35mm film, documenting a young Michael at the exact moment he transitioned from pop star to global icon. For decades, the footage remained largely unseen before being recently restored and remastered for theatrical release.

The film was directed by longtime collaborators Andy Morahan and David Austin, and will be introduced by a short film titled Finding Faith, directed by filmmaker and photographer Mary McCartney. The introduction includes unseen photographs, behind-the-scenes footage, and audio from a previously unheard interview with Michael himself.

Alongside the movie, fans will also receive new music. An accompanying live album titled “The Faith Tour” will feature 18 previously unreleased recordings captured during the tour, including performances from both Michael’s solo catalog and his earlier work with the pop duo Wham!.

Released in 1987, Faith became one of the defining albums of the late 1980s, selling more than 25 million copies worldwide and producing four No.1 singles in the United States.

The upcoming film aims to recreate the tour as it was originally envisioned, offering audiences a rare look at Michael’s electrifying stage presence during the era that cemented his legacy as one of pop music’s most influential performers.

Release dates and territories for the theatrical rollout are expected to be announced soon.
